Dear Pastor Gallups,  "What do you say to people who claim that the United States has no religious roots and that our founding fathers were not Christians?”       L.L. - Milton

Dear L.L., I would say that person is probably a product of one of our most recent cultural brainwashing processes!

To say that our nation has no religious or Christian roots and that the founding fathers had no intention of their Christian faith being a part of our national government and heritage is ridiculous.   For a person to make these claims they must be extremely misinformed, uninformed or plain attempting to deceive others.

PATRICK HENRY was one of our most important founding fathers. He is credited with being one of the single most influential voices in beginning the American Revolution.  Perhaps you will recognize his words, “ I know not what course that others may take, but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!”   Patrick Henry also spoke these words; “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ!

GEORGE WASHINGTON, our first President, is credited with many statements concerning the importance of God, the Bible, Prayer and dependence upon “divine Providence” in the cultural, political and governmental life of this nation.  Read his Presidential Farewell Address as an example of this truth.

The second sentence to our DECLARATION OF INDEPENDACE says, “ We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal and are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”   Note that the authors of the Declaration of Independence believed… in a CREATOR. The fact that there was a Creator was a TRUTH and it was SELF EVIDENT.

The evidence is overwhelming for the Christian and the God fearing heritage of our nation.  To attempt to paint a picture otherwise is simply a display of one’s overwhelming ignorance.  Our founding fathers knew that to leave the Lord God out of our life and government meant disaster for us as individuals and as a nation.   Please, L.L., make sure that the Lord Jesus is central to your life and then insist with your VOTE that He been central to our current national direction!
